Flatland Tricks
Flatland tricks are the basis for your skimboarding skills. If you understand
the concepts behind flatland, then you will understand how to get air off waves and accomplish numerous other goals on your
board.
1. Spinning (360 and beyond)
This is one of the first tricks that youngsters learn when
they get on their board and want to do some cool moves. Here is what needs to be done in order to do a 360 and beyond:
A. Get riding at a resonable pace with enough water in front
of you.
B. Bend over
C. IT IS IMPORTANT TO KNOW WHETHER YOU RIDE NORMAL OR GOOFY
FROM THIS POINT ON: If you ride goofy, stick the fingers of your right hand into the sand with your palm facing the direction
you are riding
D. Dig your fingers in that sand and push hard in the direction
in which you are riding. This will create a momentum for your board to spin the opposite way in which you pushed.
E. Stand up and ride the spin out...don't spin for too long
or you are bound to fall on your back in the middle of the spin.
2. Pop Shove-it
This is another common trick that is fairly simple once you get the
hang of it:
A. Get riding on your board
B. While riding, lift your feet up a tad and spin them in
opposite directions. This way the front of the board and the back of your board will rotate in the same (clockwise or counterclockwise)
direction.
C. Once the board has gone around 180 degrees, land back on
the board...MAKE SURE YOU LEAN BACK SO YOU CONTINUE TO RIDE THE WAVE OR ELSE YOUR WEIGHT WILL CAUSE THE BOARD TO BOTTOM OUT.
3. Gravedigger
This is a trick me and my buddies down at the jersey shore made up, well
we actually didn't make it up, but we gave it a correct name...gravedigger. The trick is quite simple:
A. Get going on your board
B. While riding, step with both feet towards the front of
your board, but not all the way up.
C. Grab the nose of your board for balance, and sit down on
your board (this is all still while riding).
D. Lay on your back, if your board is long enough, and extend
your legs out over the front of the board, hence making the appearance that you are laying flat on your back (gravedigger
effect). Ride it out
4. Squatting Dog
This trick is an easy flatland trick that you can learn in a matter of
minutes:
A. Get riding on your board
B. Bend down, putting your hands down on the front of the
board and your feet towards the back.
C. Squat down, lifting your right leg in the air, as if you
are a dog urinating on a fire hydrant.
D. Ride it out
This trick is definitely going to show off your stuff to the girls.
5. The Model
This trick is fun and funny looking, but sure to impress
A. Get riding
B. Squat Down and get on your knees
C. Lay on your side like a model
D. Simple as that
