Now that you have accomplished your first two tasks of waxing, preparing to ride,
throwing your board, and getting on, you are now ready to "go the distance" as some have called it, which actually means going
really far. Hence the whole going the distance part. In order to accomplish this, you must think in terms of simplicity and
not be too hard on yourself if you do not go very far on your first few days of skimboarding.
A. Make sure the board you have is the right size
I have ridden many boards that are too small for me (6'1, 198lbs), and I have found
too that these boards are not "defective" as the young children like to call it. You are not going to go really far with a
bigger board. Do not believe this for a second. The bigger you are, the bigger your board should be. I have seen many 8 year
olds cruise for 50-70 yards (1/2 to 2/3 of a football field) and are using boards that are very small. I have also seen young
kids using huge boards (that were made for professional riding) and don't go anywhere.

B. Gain a lot of momentum, make sure you have a lot of wave, and let your board
go.
As long as you are in control of the board, there is no telling how far you are
limited to going. It's all about how fast you run, how quickly you catch the board, and how much momentum you have when you
jump onto the board. If you have checked these many things off of your checklist, then you are more than capable of riding
for a good amount of time.
